Spectroscopic Study of Electronic Structure

in Correlated and Low Dimensional Solids

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research associate in the Department of Physics, Boston University.  The research project concerns the study of the electronic structure of correlated and low dimensional solids using resonant inelastic soft x-ray scattering, soft x-ray emission spectroscopy, and high resolution angle resolved photoemission spectroscopy.  The postdoctoral research associate will undertake this research at the National Synchrotron Light Source (NSLS), Brookhaven National Laboratory, in New York.  The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to participate in on-going studies of electronic structure in nitride and organic semiconductors, and will use the only soft x-ray emission/resonant inelastic x-ray scattering spectrometer at the NSLS.  Experiments associated with these programs are also performed at the Advanced Light Source (Berkeley, California), and MAXLab (Lund, Sweden).

This position is funded by the U.S. Department of Energy, and is available immediately.  The initial appointment will be two years, with a third year appointment possible by mutual consent.  Candidates should have a strong background in solid state and/or surface physics and must have UHV experience.  Synchrotron experience is highly desirable but not required.  Please send a letter of application, a resume, and the names and full addresses (including electronic mail) of three references to:
